Medical Expense Benefits

Application Benefits

The contact point that handles applications is the Student Welfare Section of the Division of Student Affairs for the Ikebukuro Campus, and the Niiza Campus Office for the Niiza Campus.

Benefits for outpatient, inpatient, and pharmaceutical expenses

With this system students can receive payment for the portion covered by student health insurance stipulated by the Union. When receiving medical care at a medical institute which does not have a contract with student health insurance, the student pays the medical expenses up front and then files an application with the office of the Rikkyo Student Multi-Aid Health Insurance Union.

Treatment Covered Only instances where a health insurance card is presented (used jointly) are covered.
Filing Period Within one month after the visit in which medical treatment is received (for inpatient treatment one month after the month the patient is discharged)
Payment Amount Full amount when the monthly amount (charged by the medical institution and pharmacy) falls within the range of covered medical treatment and is 2,500 yen or higher, and not exceeding 80,100 yen per month of medical treatment, with a yearly limit of 639,900 yen.
Application Documents Medical expense benefits application form, receipt from medical institution, stamp, student ID, a copy of the student’s bank passbook (standard savings account in the student’s name at a city or regional bank. This copy must clearly display the bank name, branch name, account number, and the name of the account holder), insurance card

Medical Equipment Benefits

The cost of medical equipment (such as a corset or artificial limb, but not crutches) is covered upon receiving medical treatment at a medical institute covered by insurance.

Filing Period Within three months after being fitted with medical equipment
Payment Amount Full amount when the amount paid is 2,500 yen or higher However, the monthly limit is 80,100 yen per month, with a yearly limit of 639,900 yen.

Automatic Benefits

Under this system, the student will not bear any of the expenses within the range of covered medical treatment when receiving treatment if this medical care is received at a medical institute which has individually concluded an agreement with student health insurance.

Medical Institutes with Designated Agreements Only two locations: Rikkyo Gakuin Clinic and Niizashiki Chuo General Hospital (inpatient and dental treatment are excluded)
Payment Amount 30% of the net medical expenses within the range of covered medical treatment
A monthly limit is 80,100 yen, with a yearly limit of 639,900 yen.
If the limit is exceeded a request for restitution will be made by the office later on.

* Students must present their health insurance card and student ID (Union card) when receiving and paying for medical treatment. The student health insurance cannot be applied if they fail to present these documents. Furthermore, for medication the student must pay up front for pharmaceutical costs if they have a prescription filled outside of the hospital (however this is covered by application benefits when the portion borne out of pocket is 2,500 yen or higher per month [by pharmacy]) and for specified medical expenses.

Disability Benefits

Student health insurance offers disability benefits to Union members who have been disabled (including aftereffects). Please inquire at the office if you fall under this category.

Special Payment for Death

Student health insurance will pay a special payment for death of 50,000 yen for Union members who die while they are enrolled.
