Rikkyo University ranked top among Japanese private universities in the International Outlook category of Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings 2022

OBJECTIVE.
The World University Rankings 2022 released on Sept. 2, 2021, by Times Higher Education (THE), a British educational journal, announced that Rikkyo University had tied for 28th position among Japanese universities in the overall standings, and ranked first among private universities in the nation, as it did last year in the International Outlook metric
Rikkyo University has been offering requisite data to the THE World University Rankings since 2018.
The THE World University Rankings 2022 cover more than 1,600 universities around the world. They are ranked according to their scores in the metrics of teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.
As in 2021, Rikkyo ranked third-highest among all universities and first among private universities in Japan in the International Outlook category. Its metric is based on three indicators: the proportion of international students, international staff compared with Japanese students and staff, and international collaboration in writing academic articles.
Most of the high-ranking universities have schools or departments related to medicine. Even though it does not have any such school or department, Rikkyo tied for 28th place in the overall rankings among domestic universities.
