OBJECTIVE.

College of Law and Politics, Rikkyo University will establish the Global Program in the Department of International Business Law to be launched in Academic Year 2022. The new Program deals with the legal perspectives of how to conduct trade transactions with foreign companies and also how to prevent and resolve disputes, through which students will be able to gain and hone global and practical legal knowledge and skills.

The Global Program of the Department of International Business Law hones students' legal knowledge and skills for the international stage by covering how to conduct trade negotiations and how to prevent or resolve disputes from a legal perspective. Specifically, the Global Program pursues three objectives: acquiring the basic knowledge of Japanese law necessary for conducting international business, developing legal skills required for a type of legal thinking that transcends the differences between national laws, and sharpening communication skills to succeed in international settings.

Program overview

There is something striking about the recent globalization of business activities in our society. Japanese companies are now trading with foreign companies that have different cultures and languages, and are often required to prepare for possible disputes in foreign countries. In the Global Program of the Department of International Business Law, students will hone their legal knowledge and skills for the international stage by learning how to conduct trade negotiations and how to prevent or resolve disputes from a legal perspective. More specifically, the Global Program has smaller classes and pursues three objectives: acquiring the basic knowledge of Japanese law necessary for conducting international business; developing legal skills required for a type of legal thinking that transcends the differences between national laws (for example, a common framework for thinking about contract law); and improving English and Japanese communication skills (note, however, that students may complete the whole program in English).

Career after graduation

As mentioned in the program overview, the Global Program will hone students' legal knowledge and skills for working in an international environment. It will also help students find positions at companies that operate globally, and not only at Japanese companies. The program is also useful for finding positions at think tanks and the international organizations.

Future places of employment

Japanese and foreign companies that operate globally (in the manufacturing, financial, IT and other sectors), think tanks, international organizations, and overseas graduate schools.

Tuition and academic fees (annual)

1,126,500 JPY (approx. 10,360 USD)
