OBJECTIVE.
Rikkyo University tied for 27th place among Asian universities in the World University Rankings released by British journal Times Higher Education (THE).
The THE World University Rankings 2020 covers about 1,400 universities across the world and comprehensively ranks them based on their scores in the five metrics of teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.
The latest Asian universities rankings consists of 489 schools. Although it is based on the world rankings, the metrics were partially adjusted for the Asian version. Rikkyo received a high score in the international outlook metric, rating third-highest among Japanese universities. The metric consists of three indicators: the proportions of international students and international staff, and international collaboration in writing academic articles.
There were 110 Asian universities ranked in the 2020 survey. Rikkyo achieved its position despite having no medicine-related departments, in contrast with most of the highly ranked schools.
