Exchange program held for Rikkyo University and University of Hong Kong students

OBJECTIVE.

Students from the University of Hong Kong visited the Ikebukuro Campus of Rikkyo University on March 6 to attend an exchange program in which they communicated in English with students of the Japanese university.

Program participants hold discussions while having lunch at the Main Dining Hall.

The University of Hong Kong was placed 4th in Times Higher Education’s Asia University Rankings 2018. After a session introducing Rikkyo University, 22 students from the University of Hong Kong and 11 Rikkyo students were mixed into three groups for a campus tour. The students enjoyed the nice weather and chatted as the Japanese students escorted the Hong Kong students on the tour. After returning to the classroom, the Hong Kong students introduced their university and exchanged their opinions about Japanese and Hong Kong cultures.

The Hong Kong students, apparently inspired by the campus tour and university introductions, held enthusiastic discussions with the Japanese students while having lunch at the Main Dining Hall. Although the program lasted only a few hours, it provided a precious opportunity for students to share their thoughts and feel closer to each other.

The University of Hong Kong and Rikkyo University have started a new overseas internship program through which they send students to each other’s campus. One student from the University of Hong Kong attended a five-week internship program at Rikkyo University’s Center for Global Human Resource Development in June and July 2017, while two Rikkyo students went to the University of Hong Kong's Centre of Development and Resources for Students for a four-week internship program in August that year.

These two Rikkyo students also joined the March 6 exchange program, reinforcing their connection with the Hong Kong university even after the internship program ended. The two universities plan to continue the internship program in the 2018 academic year and beyond to build even closer ties.
