Rikkyo University establishes office in Shanghai

Keyword:INFORMATION

OBJECTIVE.

RIkkyo University has opened an overseas office in Shanghai, China. It becomes the university’s fourth overseas office following the 2014 establishment of branches in South Korea (Seoul), the United States (New York) and the U.K. (London). The new office will focus primarily on PR activities within China aimed at strengthening ties with Chinese universities and senior high schools.

In 2014, the university adopted its internationalization strategy, “Rikkyo Global 24,” after being selected as a Top Global University Project by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Rikkyo currently accepts about 850 international students each year, but aims to realize a global campus that will welcome more than 2,000 overseas students in 2024.

Presently, students from China account for about 45 percent of the university’s foreign student intake, and this figure is increasing year by year. By establishing an overseas office in Shanghai—China's largest economic hub—the university hopes to attract more high-quality international students.

Rikkyo University is headed by President Tomoya Yoshioka; the main campus is located in Toshima Ward, Tokyo.
