Film Screening and Panel Discussion on Research Project on Image Ecology - 2 sessions(June 7, 13)

OBJECTIVE.

Rikkyo Research Institute of Advanced Research in Psychology, Arts and Humanities will present a panel discussion on Research Project on Image Ecology. Here, we will discuss various researches activated on the research base of image ecology, and their future applications. This public lecture on research results will be held as part of the ‘Research Project on Image Ecology’ in the MEXT-supported Program for Strategic Research Foundation at Private Universities, 2011-2015.

Born in 1966, in Lisbon, Portugal. Filmmaker. One of the representing directors of 2000s. He judged at various film festivals. In 2013, a retrospective of all his work including long and short films was held in Japan, and was seen by many audiences.

Born in Portugal. Art director, filmmaker. Long-time sworn ally of a film director – Joao Pedro Rodliguez. Co-director and writer for A Última Vez Que Vi Macau.

Takefumi Tsutsui (June 7 only)

Professor at Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo University of the Arts. Extramural researcher of ‘Research Project on Image Ecology’’ (Team 3). Directed films include: Yumeko no Daibouken (1987), In a Lonely Planet (2010), Fancy Free (2014).

Daisuke Akasaka (June 7 only)

Born in 1965, in Tokyo. After having graduated Rikkyo University, he studied in Italy. In 1994, he visited Portugal and made research on the current status of its film making, which put him in position of a film critique for Cinema Jumpo and others. Since 2008, he has been a part-time lecturer at Department of Body Expression and Cinematic Arts, College of Contemporary Psychology.

Shinya Tsukamoto (June 13 only)

Born in 1960, in Tokyo. Filmmaker. His director-debuting film, Tetsuo The Iron Man, received the Grand Prix Award in Roma Fantastic Film Festival. And ever since, he received various awards in Japan and internationally. In Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica (Venice Film Festival), A Snake of June received the Special Jury Prize in the Controlé Section, and Kotoko also received the Grand Prix at Orizzonti Section in the same film festival. Last year, his most recent film, Fires on the Plain was screened officially in Venice Film Festival Competition.
