OVERVIEW

The Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) is one of two largest academic organizations in the field of sport and exercise psychology. The AASP conducts regional conferences for postgraduate students, which is separate from the annual conference for professionals.

The AASP 2024 Asia-Pacific Regional Conference was held at Tachikawa Memorial International Hall on Rikkyo University’s Niiza Campus on August 3rd and 4th. This conference was initiated by Professor Masato KAWABATA of the College of Sport and Wellness who had obtained a fund from the AASP.

This was the first student conference in Asia and Pacific regions. As the conference was an international conference, the official language for the conference was English.
The conference’s theme was “Be brave to break through a boundary!” This conference was autonomously organized by postgraduate and undergraduate students from several Japanese universities. It was a great learning opportunity for the students.

In total, 4 Rikkyo University students participated in the conference. Three students (2 postgraduates and 1 undergraduate) contributed to the conference as organizers, and one student (1 postgraduate) participated in the conference as an audience member.

Comments from participating students

  • Tsutomu OKADA
Graduate School of Sport and Wellness first-year

It was the first time for me to participate in a conference, and it was a unique and good experience. The preparation for the conference was a little hard work, but I was able to get to know outside professors and students from other universities. I also learned a lot about other people's research. It was a good summer memory.

I attended the conference as an oral presentation moderator, which was challenging for me, but I was able to get it done thanks to the support of other students. I also could talk with students and professors from other universities it was valuable experience.

I learned from the AASP2024 conference that I needed to open my eyes overseas as a researcher and have a challenging spirit for my research. Joining this conference is a good opportunity for all young researchers.
