Rikkyo University Purpose of Education and Policies

Rikkyo University seeks students who agree with Rikkyo University’s Mission, Principle of Education, and Purpose of Education; who are willing to study actively in both regular and extracurricular education; and who possess the qualities and abilities necessary to complete an undergraduate program in four years.
The University offers various types of entrance examinations with the aim of welcoming diverse students and encouraging them to learn from each other.
The purposes of the types of entrance examinations conducted by the University are as follows.
  1. General Entrance Exam
    The purpose of this selection process is to assess the level of achievement in the subjects and disciplines studied in high school and to select applicants who understand the Purpose of Education of the University and its colleges and who wish to pursue education in the respective colleges.
  2. Entrance Examination Using The Common Test for University Admissions
    The purpose of this selection process is to assess the level of achievement in the subjects and disciplines studied in high school and to select applicants who understand the Purpose of Education of the University and its colleges and who wish to pursue education in the respective colleges using The Common Test for University Admissions.
  3. Admissions Based on Self-referral
    The purpose of this selection process is to select applicants who have a high level of ability related to the college they wish to study in, or who have individuality and excel in various non-academic activities, who understand the Purpose of Education of the University and its colleges, based on a multifaceted and holistic evaluation of the submitted documents and the content of interviews, etc.
  4. Entrance Exam for International Courses
    The purpose of this selection process is to select applicants who wish to study in courses that nurture human resources capable of contributing to global society or courses that allow students to earn credits required to graduate only in English, based on a multifaceted and holistic evaluation of the submitted documents and the content of short essays, interviews, etc.
  5. Entrance Exam for Athletes
    The purpose of this selection process is to select applicants who not only have outstanding athletic achievements, but also have excellent character and high academic ambitions, based on a multifaceted and holistic evaluation of the athletic achievements, the submitted documents, and the content of short essays, interviews, etc.
  6. Entrance Exam for Returnees
    The purpose of this selection process is to select returnee students who wish to further enrich and develop their abilities and personalities that they have acquired in foreign countries under foreign school education, based on a multifaceted and holistic evaluation of the submitted documents and the content of short essays, interviews, etc.
  7. Entrance Exam for International Students
    The purpose of this selection process is to select international students who wish to pursue their education at the University as part of international exchange, in addition to the study abroad exchange program.
    1) Admission by Written Exam and Interview
    International students are evaluated multifacetedly and holistically based on the submitted documents, a Japanese language test, and the content of interviews, etc.
    2) Admission by Document Screening
    International students are evaluated multifacetedly and holistically based on the submitted documents and the content of scores in the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU), etc.
  8. Entrance Exam for Adult Students
    The purpose of this program is to select adult members of society who have a desire to study at universities through an entrance exam distinct from the general entrance exam, based on a multifaceted and holistic evaluation of the submitted documents and the content of short essays, interviews, etc.
  9. Admission by Recommendation by Designated Schools
    The purpose of this selection process is to designate high schools that offer distinctive education based on the Purpose of Education of each college, and to accept students recommended by the principal of their high school who understand the Purpose of Education of each college and have a certain level of academic ability as determined by each college.
  10. Admission following Recommendation by Partner Schools
    The purpose of this selection process is to accept students recommended by the principal of their high school from high schools affiliated with the Anglican-Episcopal Church of Japan who understand the Purpose of Education of the University and its colleges and who are willing to continue their education based on Christian values.
  11. Recommendation Entrance Examination (NEXUS)
    The purpose of this selection process is to designate foreign high schools that offer distinctive education and language education based on the curriculum content of the NEXUS Program Intensive Japanese Language Course and the Purpose of Education of college’s curriculum, which is connected to the NEXUS Program from the second semester onward and accept students recommended by the principal of their high school who have the attitude to practice global collaborative coexistence through communication, understand the Purpose of Education of each college, and have a certain level of academic ability as determined by the University.
  12. Recommendation Entrance Examination (PEACE)
    The purpose of this selection process is to designate foreign high schools that offer distinctive education and language education based on the Purpose of Education of the PEACE Program implemented by each college, and to accept students recommended by the principal of their high school who understand the Purpose of Education of each college and have a certain level of academic ability as determined by the University.
  13. General Entrance Examination (PEACE)
    The purpose of this selection process is to select international students who are willing to deepen and develop their abilities and personalities acquired through school education abroad in English-based undergraduate programs at the University, based on their understanding of the Purpose of Education of each college and on a multifaceted and holistic evaluation of the submitted documents based on certain academic standards established by the University.
