Rikkyo University renewed the English pages of its official website on March 20, 2018, for the first time in 10 years.

The English pages are mainly aimed at people outside the university – the same audience targeted by the Japanese pages renewed in 2017. In particular, the English pages are designed so the content layout and user flow caters to foreign students interested in studying at Rikkyo University.

Rikkyo University’s visions based on Rikkyo Global 24, a set of internationalization strategies announced in 2014, were adopted for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s Top Global University project. In 2015, Rikkyo University stipulated Rikkyo Vision 2024, mid- and long-term visions to be pursued in the run-up to the 150th anniversary of its founding in 2024. The university aims be an academic institution that represents Asia and stands tall in the world.

Renewal of the English pages will strengthen Rikkyo University’s ability to convey information about its educational and research activities to people overseas.

Merits of the renewal
  • The English pages adopted a responsive design for a multitude of devices with different screen sizes, in particular mobile devices. The same approach was taken when renewing the university’s official website in 2017.
  • The main target audience is people outside the university, including students taking entrance examinations, those at universities with which Rikkyo University has a tie-up agreement and researchers. These people do not necessarily have a command of Japanese language.
  • Information geared to Rikkyo University students will be available on the intra-university site, SPIRIT. An automatic Japanese-to-English translation machine will be installed on the site in April 2018 so international students will be able to access the same information as Japanese students.
