H1N1 Influenza Update (Important Announcement)

05/22/2009

To All Rikkyo Students, Faculty, and Staff

As of May 20 (Wed.) several cases of H1N1 influenza have been reported in Kawasaki and Tokyo. As this outbreak is quite limited, it has been decided not to proceed with any school closings for the time being. In the meantime, infections continue to increase in the Hyogo and Osaka area, and some school closings are being continued to limit the spread of the virus.

While continuing to monitor local government agencies, and preparing for specific measures depending on the situation, Rikkyo University will continue to operate educational activities of teaching and research as usual.

However, because the situation may change in the future, we ask that all members check the university homepage (http://www.rikkyo.ac.jp) each day for emergency announcements.

As previously reported, travel restrictions to other countries have not been imposed, but if you are planning a trip, either overseas or to parts of Japan where cases have been reported, please consider carefully whether it is necessary, monitoring the situation at the destination, and refraining from unnecessary trips. If travel is necessary, please consult the information in previous announcements.
Upon return from travel to affected areas, even if you do not exhibit symptoms, please wear a mask for seven days.

Be sure to consult a doctor on appearance of serious symptoms such as cough, fever above 38 degrees Celsius, chills, joint pain, nausea, and diarrhea. If you suspect you may have the flu, please immediately call the Rikkyo University Health Care Room (03-3985-2651), or Niiza Campus Hralth Care Room (048-471-6680).
