Public Lecture "The Consequences of Posthumanism: Sociological Reflections on Identity and Society" on June 2

OBJECTIVE.

College of Sociology will hold a public lecture by Anthony Elliot (Director of Hawke Research Institute at the University of South Australia), with which College of Sociology have entered into an academic exchange agreement in October 2014. In this lecture, he will be discussing the relationship between modern society and our identities, on the topic of occurrence and consequences of Posthumanism.

Graduated from Melbourne University in 1986 and studied under Lord Anthony Giddens at Cambridge University, Professor Elliot obtained his doctorate in Philosophy in 1991. After becoming a professor at University of Kent at Canterbury and then at Flinders University, he is currently a Director of the Hawke Research Institute, where he is Research Professor of Sociology at the University of South Australia. He is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. His publications include Concepts of the Self, Social Theory and Psychoanalysis in Transition, The New Individualism (with Charles Lemert), Mobile Lives (with John Urry) , On Society (with Bryan S. Turner), Reinvention and many others, as well as editing in publications such as Companion to Contemporary Japanese Social Theory (with Masataka Katagiri and Atsushi Sawai).
