College of Sociology and Rikkyo Institute for Global Urban Studies will hold a public lecture by Andrew Markus (Professor at Monash University). In this lecture, he will be explaining why immigrations and multiculturalism are popularly supported in Australia.

Pratt Foundation Research Chair of Jewish Civilisation. Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia.
He is well known in his research areas such as multiculturalism and race relations. Since arriving in Australia as an eight-year-old refugee from Hungary in late 1950s, he has obtained his doctorate at La Trobe University in 1975. In the recent years he has published results of extensive surveys such as Mapping Social Cohesion 2014 National Report. His main publication (since year 2000) includes Immigration and Nation Building: Australia and Israel Compared (co-editor, Edward Elgar, 2010); Australia's Immigration Revolution (co-author, Allen & Unwin, 2009); The 1967 Referendum: Race, Power and the Australian Constitution, 2nd ed. (co-author, Aboriginal Studies Press, 2007); Race: John Howard and the Remaking of Australia (Allen & Unwin, 2001); Building a New Community: Immigration and the Victorian Economy (editor, Allen & Unwin, 2001) and many others.
