Rikkyo-Yonsei-Keio Leadership Forum 2003

In 2003, the Leadership Forum moved to Japan, where Rikkyo University hosted a program with the theme of "Global and Local Leadership." The idea of this year's forum was to engage students in considering ways that community based, non-profit, and non-governmental organization tackle problems that affect them locally but are global in scope. Students controlled the theme and organization of their own workshop sessions and were encouraged to think of ways that they could express their own leadership talents in working for global change.
The program began on Rikkyo's Campus in Tokyo with a hands-on session on education and leadership led by Yoshinori Ikezumi. Students had an opportunity to get out and see a bit of Tokyo on their own in the afternoon, and returned the next morning for a panel discussion on NGO leadership in Japan. That afternoon everyone boarded buses for the highlands of Kiyosato, where the theme changed slightly to include Environmental Education and outdoor activity. Kiyosato provided the opportunity for deep discussion in a relaxed setting and students got to know each other better and made some real progress on their group works. Presentations the final day were followed by a barbecue and closing party, and once again everyone returned home tired but with new insights, understandings and friendships.
