Admissions Flow

1. Application Preparations

  • Prepare the funds you will need for your study in Japan
  • Select your preferred graduate school and degree program
  • Request admission materials

  • Mail the application documents
  • Submit your application online

4. Enrollment Preparation

  • Pay the admission fee and other academic fees
  • Submit the documents needed for enrollment procedures
  • Complete visa procedures

Applicants can look up and view information to learn about the research and academic activities of Rikkyo’s academic research staff and their major accomplishments. Admission Timing

While many graduate schools have April admission, the Graduate School of Business and the Graduate Degree Program in Language Sciences, Graduate School of Intercultural Communication offer September admission. Please be aware that the entrance exam dates are different for April and September admission.

Application Qualifications

Master’s Programs

Applicants who are applying for admission in April 2016 must fulfill one of the following qualifications:

  1. 1. Have graduated or expect to graduate from a university in March 2016 Note1
  2. 2. Have been awarded an undergraduate degree by the National Institution for Academic Degrees or expect to be awarded such a degree by March 31, 2016
  3. 3. Have completed or expect to complete 16 years of school education in a country outside of Japan by March 31, 2016
  4. 4. Have completed a specialized course at a specialized training college designated by the Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on or after the date determined by the minister or expect to complete such a course by March 31, 2016
  5. 5. Are designated by the Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
  6. 6. Are recognized by a graduate school of Rikkyo University as possessing capabilities equivalent to or greater than those of a university graduate and will be 22 years of age as of March 31, 2016

Note: 1. “University” in application qualifications 1 refers to a Japanese university pursuant to the School Education Act.

Doctoral Programs

Applicants who are applying for admission in April 2016 must fulfill one of the following qualifications:

  1. 1. Have been awarded or expect to be awarded a master’s degree or professional degree by March 31, 2016
  2. 2. Have completed or expect to complete a regular school education program equivalent to a master’s program or a professional degree program in a country outside of Japan by March 31, 2016
  3. 3. Are designated by the Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
  4. 4. Are recognized by a graduate school of Rikkyo University as possessing capabilities equivalent to or greater than those of a master’s degree holder or professional degree holder and will be 24 years of age as of March 31, 2016

Entrance Exam Categories

Rikkyo University’s graduate schools offer the “general entrance exam,” the “entrance exam for working adults,” and the “entrance exam for international students.” The Law School offers the “general entrance exam” and the “entrance exam for scholarships.” Please note that application qualifications and the application period are different for each graduate school and exam category. For more information on the exams, please refer to the admission guideline. For graduate schools not offering the “entrance exam for international students,” please take the exam for the exam category relevant to you, such as “general entrance exam” and “entrance exam for working adults.”

General Entrance Exam

Entrance exam for applicants who satisfy the qualifications for Master’s or Doctoral Programs listed above.

Entrance Exam for Working Adults

Entrance exam for those who satisfy the application qualifications for Master’s or Doctoral Programs and meet the professional requirements designated by the relevant graduate school. Please be sure to complete the applicant eligibility screening (see below) before submitting your application.

Entrance Exam for International Students

Entrance exam for those who satisfy the application qualifications for Master’s or Doctoral Programs, have non-Japanese citizenship, and graduated from universities outside of Japan. Please be sure to complete the applicant eligibility screening (see below) before submitting your application.

Applicant Eligibility Screening

If you are applying for the “entrance exam for international students” or the “entrance exam for working adults,” please submit the necessary forms before applying for admission, and complete the applicant eligibility screening. The necessary forms and the application checklist differ by graduate school. Please be sure to check the admission guidelines of the graduate school you wish to apply to.
